FAQs

Where are you based?

My sewing room is my home sewing space. I moved to Romsey (Hampshire, UK) in August 2025, which isn’t far from where I grew up.

Romsey is a lovely market town, with easy access to the New Forest and Southampton. The town is a lovely place to explore, with a canal path, Abbey, memorial gardens and plenty of cafes to keep you well fed. We love that we can take our dog for countryside walks from our doorstep, as well as many other walks nearby in Test Valley.

Directions to my home are provided on your booking confirmation email.

Who are your classes for?

If a class is aimed at people with specific level of sewing, it will state this. Any class without a description will be aimed at a beginner who is confident at stitching a straight line on a machine and someone may understands some basic knowledge of sewing.

Having skill levels stated ensures that the class is attended by those who are able to complete the project in the scheduled time.

Do reach out if you want to check if a class is suitable for you.

Are classes suitable for children?

All classes are aimed at adults 18 years old or above. If you know someone younger who is interested, please contact me before making any bookings. People younger than 16 may need to be accompanied by a guardian during classes.

I am happy to run private class for families, groups of friends or 1-to-1, including for young creatives.

How big are classes?

Due to the size of my sewing room, I am limited to teaching up to 3 people at a time. This means there is enough space to be comfortable when cutting out, printmaking or sewing during any of the classes.

For Sewing Socials, I will be taking up a space, so there will be up to four of us sewing together.

I don’t own a sewing machine. Can I borrow one?

Yes, you can! I currently have two machines you can use. These can be reserve on a first-come, first-serve basis.

I have a Bernina 1008 and Pfaff Ambition 620. I have used the Bernina for years and is a tough machine. I’ve been using a Pfaff regularly since September 2024, and I really love it. As my first digital screen machine, it’s a real delight to use, with lots of stitch options for personalising items and getting creative!

There is an option at booking to let me know if you need to borrow a machine. I will confirm via email that a machine is available for you.

Are classes accessible?

The sewing room is based on the first floor of my home. There is only stair access (with a handrail) to the space.

There is uneven surface to reach my home, which may not be suitable for wheelchairs or mobility scooters.

If you have any particular needs to make the class comfortable or enjoyable, please get in touch so reasonable adaptions can be arranged.

What do I need to bring with me?

Every class will have different requirements depending on what we will be making. Students will be emailed after booking what they need to bring. In general, there are similarities for classes;

  • Sewing machine and cables (unless confirmed reservation). These must be in safe working order.

  • Teas, coffees and basic biscuits will be provided as refreshments. If you have dietary requirements, do let me know at time of booking. I am really happy for you to bring your own preferred snacks too.

  • Sewing slippers - if you like to sew in particular footwear, by all means, bring them along too!

  • Class specific fabric and/or haberdashery, as per email following your booking. Any questions or help sourcing fabric, do get in touch with Jenny.

  • Creative enthusiasm! A passion to learn!

Can you make something for me? Or can you turn up a hem for me?

No. I am here to inspire and teach. You can bring a project to an Open Studio class where I can support you to do that yourself.

I do not take on sewing projects for others. There are lots of local seamstress and dressmakers who may take this on for you.
